Our Purpose: Why we started Wohido

As business owners and operators of a manufacturing and distribution company in rural Wisconsin, our co-founders, Jay Emling and Shaun Quinlan, were frustrated with the sub-par performance of many of the new employees shortly after they were hired.  The majority of then-current employees looked liked ideal candidates on paper, and most even aced their interviews.  So, asked Jay and Shaun, where was the breakdown?  They believed that a person's historical body of work was a far better indicator of future performance than just a self-curated resume or an interview, and as such, thought that it would be extremely valuable to understand how these prospective employees actually performed in their previous roles prior to extending a job offer and expending the cost of hiring and training them.  However, they also understood from their own personal experience that most companies are extremely hesitant to provide detailed references (if any) for former employees out of fear of defamation of character, slander, and libel lawsuits - so getting that information would be extremely difficult, if not impossible.

After further research, they learned that the majority of states have job reference immunity laws that protect previous employers from litigation, but most employers don't even know that these exist.  So, Jay and Shaun saw an opportunity to solve an enormous problem that they, and most likely, the majority of their peers faced; and thus, Wohido was born, to provide a platform for employers to facilitate transparency and accountability in their workforce, ultimately lowering costs and increasing efficiencies for the continued growth and profitability of their businesses.
